Voice, Piano, Songwriting

Music found me early. Growing up, my family sang all over Central Texas. By high school, I was in choir and band and even became a background singer for my vocal coach, Toni Ringgold. This opened doors I never imagined—performing at the Mayor's prayer breakfast, Austin Jazz Festival, NAACP banquets, black history programs, and eventually singing at Martha’s Vineyard!

When I finished my voice degree from Prairie View A&M University, I discovered something even more exciting than performing: watching students transform into amazing musicians. Yes, it's great to hear about auditions that went well or the awards received. But what really gets me excited is seeing their growth. Watching that shy kid who wouldn't make eye contact walk onto our recital stage and absolutely own their performance. Seeing the crowd go wild as they belt out with total confidence—that's pure magic.

Here's what most people don't realize—music is 50% a mental game. I don't just teach the fundamentals, I help students break through the fear, the self-doubt, and that little voice that says, "I'm not good enough." They master so much more than just musical ability. They learn to stand tall, speak up in class, and believe in themselves. Music builds confidence that spills into every other area of their life. I'm more than just a music teacher—I’m a supporter, comforter, and sometimes even a therapist.

Yes, we'll work on vocal and piano techniques—these fundamentals matter. But music is supposed to be FUN, and we're going to have so much fun putting in the hard work and learning songs you actually want to sing or play, while building the skills that make you sound incredible doing it.

Outside of teaching, I love singing in Voices of Houston and writing and recording my own original music. When I teach, I'm not just passing on technique—I'm sharing a universal language that connects us all. Being able to pass on my love for music is extremely rewarding, and I hope my students can find the same joy that I’ve found in music.
